100% TENCEL™ lyocell sateen colors
organic fibers in fair fashion

WHAT
KIND OF FABRICS
ARE SUSTAINABLE CLOTHES
MADE OF?

TENCEL™ lyocell woven fabrics are the textiles we mostly work with at Kampoeng Confectie: made of Eucalyptus trees from PEFC and FCS certified forests. The trees are grown on pieces of land that are less suited for agriculture, the yields per hectares are really big, there aren’t any pesticides used and rainwater water is used for irrigation.

The trees are turned into wood chips, which are turned into wood pulp. From this wood pulp they make a fiber, which is finally turned into Lyocell fabric (or, with certification, TENCEL™). The good thing about TENCEL™ is that it uses a ‘closed loop’ system, where the non-toxic solvent – to make a fiber from wood pulp – is won back during the process.

Some of the advantages of TENCEL™ are: organic fibers and biodegradable fabric, the high yield compared to cotton, the softness, shrinks less than cotton, breaths well and is really strong. Next to that, the different TENCEL™ fabrics needs only a short washing program due to the anti-bacterial properties. This means the products are sustainable in use as well.

The certification we actively take care of with Kampoeng Confectie is TENCEL™ from Lenzing. All these TENCEL™ fabrics are dyed according to OEKO-tex standards. This means the fabrics are fully free of harmful chemicals and are safe for human use.

FASHION MADE WITHOUT SLAVERY

HOW DO YOU KNOW
IF FASHION
IS MADE FAIR?

Since 2018 we work with (mainly female) sewers on several home-based industry locations in Yogyakarta and Bandung in Indonesia.

We find it important that all of our products are produced without slavery and that our sewers are paid a living wage. Besides the focus on our own working conditions, we are also actively engaged in conversations about working conditions with the suppliers we get our fabrics from.

In our workplaces happiness is paramount: workers have a free choice for projects and / or products they work on, receiving a living wage. We give free training, education and free resources / devices to work with. Naturally, there aren’t any children working for us and we do not discriminate. People who work for us, however, do need to be able to work independently and studious. We make sure our people work safe and healthy. At the moment, we work project-based with all our workplaces.
